Hi, I’m Kerrie, founder of Solace SEND Support.

I set up Solace because I know just how complicated and overwhelming the SEND system can feel for families.

Having worked in education since 2007, I have experienced the SEND system from many different perspectives. I have worked in SEN and mainstream teaching, as a SENDCO and within a Local Authority EHCP team, where my role included assessments, annual reviews and tribunal work.

But my understanding of SEND isn't only professional. I am also a SEND parent. This means I have experienced the system from the other side of the table too – navigating processes, seeking the right support and understanding how important it is for parents to feel listened to and confident in advocating for their child.

Over the years, I have seen how difficult it can be for families to navigate SEND processes, particularly when faced with unfamiliar terminology, lengthy paperwork, deadlines and complex legislation.

I have also seen the difference that the right support can make.

I wanted to create a service that brings together my professional experience, knowledge of the SEND system and personal experience as a parent to provide families with clear, practical and accessible support.

That's why I created Solace SEND Support.

My aim is not to overwhelm families with jargon or make them feel that they need an expert to speak for them. I want to empower parents with the knowledge and confidence to understand the system, make informed decisions and advocate for their child.

Since starting my career in 2007, I have worked across education and SEND in a number of roles, including:
• SEN teaching
• Mainstream teaching
• SENDCO
• Local Authority EHCP team
• EHCP assessments and annual reviews
• SEND Tribunal work

I hold a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies and a PGCE. I have also completed the National Professional Qualification for SENCOs (NPQ SENCO) and IPSEA SEND Law training.

This combination of experience means I understand the SEND system from multiple perspectives – education, local authority, professional and parent.

I provide independent SEND consultancy, advice and advocacy to families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
